Frequently Asked Questions |
|
Q. Where is Star Orchard located?
A. Located just 15 minutes east of Appleton and 30 minutes south
of Green Bay, Star Orchard is very accessible from almost anywhere. Please view
the map link for
directions.
Q. Does Star Orchard sell apples via the internet or mail?
A. No, due to the high cost of postage and shipping costs.
Q. What is the difference between apple juice and
apple cider?
A. It depends on who you ask, but the most popular answer is
that apple cider is the natural unaltered juice you get when the apples
are washed, ground up to a course applesauce and squeezed. The cider is
completely natural with no preservatives and simple filtration leaving a
cloudy liquid with much apple solids. They call it apple juice when the
liquid is boiled, filtered, and clarified, usually sold in clear glass
containers. It looks nice, but the flavor has changed so as to not
resemble apples.
Q. Do you use the apples that fall to the ground for cider?
A. Never did, never will. We use the small or slightly blemished
tree picked apples that are washed before they are ground up for cider.
Q. Do you spray your apple trees?
A. When you have a large concentration of any type of fruit or
vegetable, you are going to attract insects that feed on that particular
crop. New products and strategies are continuing to be developed to fight
these new techniques. Insect traps baited with phermones are now used to
alert us to the presence of damaging levels of codling moths and tentiform
leafminers. We no longer spray by the calender, but only when damaging
numbers are present.
