Star Orchard is an apple orchard located on the east side
of the Fox Valley in Northeast Wisconsin in a very small community called
Hollandtown. Planted in 1962, it is not uncommon to see three generations of
family along with the family pet spending several hours on fall weekend
afternoons searching for the perfect apples.
We are primarily a "Pick Your Own" orchard, but also feature
a sales room with pre-picked apples, cider and honey. We also offer a wide
selection of jams, jellies, dressings, mustard, maple syrup, assorted gourds,
Indian corn, caramel apples, caramel apple dip and many types of squash. |

While
the McIntosh and Cortland are easily the most popular varieties picked by our
customers, please scroll down this page to see some of the other
varieties we offer. Located just 15 minutes east of Appleton and 30 minutes south
of Green Bay, Star Orchard is very accessible from almost anywhere. For more
specific directions, please view our map

New Varieties and New Plantings of Old
Varieties
( Not Available to "Pick Your Own")
-
Honey Crisp - We feel this is one of the best
apple varieties in the apple world today. Introduced in the 1990's by the
University of Minnesota, this large, exceptionally crisp, juicy apple has
instantly become a customer favorite. You won't see many of these in
supermarkets for years to come since demand far exceeds supply.
-
Paulared - This
all-purpose August apple is similar to McIntosh. It has become so popular
that we have removed all our other August apple varieties.
-
Jonagold - A cross between Jonathon and Golden
Delicious. This large firm sweet-tart apple has become one of the most popular
apples in Europe. We believe it will do as well in the Fox Valley area. We
highly recommend this last season apple for it's superior flavor and keeping
quality.
-
Mollies Delicious - Better known as a
Molly, this large apple has the Delicious shape but has it's own distinctive
flavor and is very snappy for an early September apple. It is not a good
keeper and not usually found in supermarkets, yet it is a local favorite.
-
Fameuse - Better
known as as a Snow Apple. It is an old variety with white flesh and believed
to be one of the parents of the modern McIntosh. We don't have many of
these.
-
Ida Red - A large late
ripening old variety still popular in many northern states.
-
Connell Red - Another
large, late ripening, newer all-purpose apple ripening in mid-October. We
don't have many of these.
-
Melrose - The official state apple of Ohio.
We are not sure yet how it got that distinction but it is a high quality,
late keeping dessert type apple with a distinctive flavor.
-
Northern Spy - One of
the very old favorites with a delicious tart flavor. This variety takes many
years to start bearing and ours are not quite there yet.

Pumpkins
|
|
Beginning in late September, families begin searching for that perfect
pumpkin. We do haul hundreds of pumpkins from the field and line them up so
little people can easily make their decision. More children prefer to go into
the fields themselves and see the really big pumpkins that are too large to
move.
If you can load them, you can buy them!
