Story: Obadiah Willliamson
The
Reverend Obadiah Williamson, 10/10/34 - 12/14/95. Born in Lake City, FL,
son of CoraLee Sheppard and Preston Williamson. Obie probably was the
first Black student at Monroe. While there he was a member of
Kappa Hi-Y (sec., key man, treas.), Monroe Hi-Y Council (sec.), French
Honor Society (soc. ch.), swim team, track team, discussion club
(pres.), Monroe Life Paper, home room pres. and vice pres. Class
pres. in grade 10 and President of the Student Association in grade
12. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College,
Ohio. He was called into the ministry and pastored a church in
Brooklyn, where he married Grace and had a son and daughter. He
returned to Rochester in 1968. Also survived by a brother, sister,
nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
