My Story:  James  H. ("Jimmy") Smith

James H. Smith "Jimmy" died on Good Friday April 13, 2001.  He was born and raised in Rochester. He attended No.24 Grammar School and graduated from Monroe High in 1953.  After graduating from Monroe High, Jim worked for four years in the payroll department for Kodak.  Along came the opportunity to go into the food business.  He worked his way up to Vice President of Sales for Federated Foods out of Chicago.  We traveled a great deal opening new offices and met many wonderful friends.  Upon his retirement he formed The Discount Group‑ a telemarketing system for large businesses.  Was busy there until his death.  Jim loved all kinds of sports, especially hockey, in which his two sons excelled.  One was at Babson College and the other at Univ. of N. H.  A mighty dad he was.  Jim was a true fighter‑ he battled cancer for 38 years, always sure he could beat it, but alas melanoma took him from us.  He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Joyce Turner Smith, a Monroe graduate of class of 57, his two sons Jeffrey Hugh of The Villages in Florida, and Jay Hamilton of Hilton Head Island, S.C. and twin granddaughters of Hilton Head Island, S.C.  An avid traveler, Jim requested that his ashes be scattered over the waters of the Caribbean, one of his favorite spots. He is dearly missed by business associates, friends, and especially his family.
