My Story:  Don Garrett

  On Sunday September 8, 2002 The Calvary SaintAndrews Presbyterian parish on Averill Ave. in Rochester Celebrated Rev. Garrett’s 40th anniversary in the ministry. Classmates attended were Sue Archibald Stanton, Eve1yn MacDonald Zuhlke, Elizabeth Cayley Gruner, Al Downs. The following was in the bulletin of the church. “Don was raised in the Church School of Calvary along with his three Siblings. He became active in Youth Fellowship, played on the 'Angels' church basketball team, and while in college acted as Student Minister. He attended Roberts Wesleyan College , and graduated from Tusculum College in Greenville , Tennessee in 1959.  

  Following college he studied at McCormack Theological Seminary in Chicago , earning a M. Div Degree in 1962.  His ordination by the Presbytery of Rochester took place at Calvary on Sept. 9, 1962 .  During his thirty-six year career prior to retirement, he served as Pastor of three churches, and as Executive Director of the Southwest Christian Ministry of Reading , PA. Don married Sharon Hill, also a member of Calvary Church on Aug. 22, 1959 . They have three children: Hilary, Mark, and Lynne.”  Don writes: “...It meant so much to have former classmates sharing in this experience  with me. Daughter Lynne marries Robert Rogorsky Oct 11 ’02 . Daughter Hilary works as a reference librarian at Nixon Peabody. She earned her M. Library Science Dec.’01 Syracuse U. Son Mark was called up by Naval Reserve after 9/11/01 , and served a year in Washington .  He returns to his graduate studies at U. Michigan Sept. ‘02.
